The Federal Government has indicated it is not likely to try to push changes to the Northern Territory intervention through Federal Parliament next week.
The Government wants to reinstate the permit system for Indigenous communities and relax a ban on pornographic pay television programs.
The Senate last night voted to remove those changes from the bill that is currently before Parliament.
It will now have to go back to the House of Representatives, but Indigenous Affairs Minister Jenny Macklin says that will not happen this year.
"We’ll consider these issues in the new year, we do want to make sure that Indigenous people are able to, like any other Australian, have the right of access on their private property," she said.
"The permit system is an important one for Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory and we’ll consider this further in the new year."
